Release Notes¶
Every Indigo release from the current version back through the last several years, newest
first. Each entry lists what changed in that release — the server and Mac client, Indigo Touch for
Web and the Web Server plugin, the Z-Wave interface, the bundled plugins, and anything that affects
scripts or plugin developers. Maintenance releases (x.y.1, x.y.2, …) are listed under the
feature release they belong to.
Wondering whether to upgrade? Read down from the top until you reach the version you are running; everything above that point is what you would gain. Releases older than the ones on this page are in the release notes archive.
Downloading a release
Releases are available from the downloads page (log in to your Indigo Account first). A release is available to you if your Up-to-Date Subscription was active on the day it shipped — the downloads page shows which releases you are eligible for, as does Indigo → License Details… in the Mac client.
Indigo 2026.1.0 — October 29, 2026¶
Indigo 2026.1 adds tags, a second way to organize devices, variables, triggers, schedules, action groups and control pages alongside folders, and MCP Control, which lets an AI assistant such as Claude run your home in plain language. Indigo Touch for Web now uses a single connection to the server and recovers on its own, the Z-Wave interface can update device firmware over the air, and there is a round of fixes for macOS 26 Tahoe in the Mac Client.
This release installs to /Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 2026.1/ and
the client app is named Indigo 2026.1, so you can switch back to 2025.2 by shutting down the
server, quitting Indigo 2026.1, and launching the older server and client. See the
blog announcement for an
overview.
Indigo now requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later
Previously it required 10.13 High Sierra. Any Mac from mid-2012 or later can run Catalina. If yours can't, Indigo 2025.2 remains available on the downloads page.
General¶
- Tags (new). Label devices, variables, triggers, schedules, action groups and control pages with
any number of tags, so things you want to see together ("upstairs", "holiday-lighting",
"needs-batteries") no longer have to be filed in the same folder. Folders are unchanged; an
object still lives in one folder but can carry many tags. Each tag has a color you choose and
looks the same everywhere it appears. See Tags.
- Mac Client: a Tags column in every object list and in the Variables window; Assign Tags… in each list's contextual menu and the Edit menu to put tags on the selected objects; a Tags tab in General Settings (Edit → Manage Tags…) to create, rename, recolor and delete tags; and a Filter button on each list to show only objects with chosen tags, marked with a green dot while a filter is on.
- Indigo Touch for Web: tags appear as colored chips on every object, and the folder and name filter can also filter by tag.
- Indigo Touch for iOS: doesn't support tags yet.
- MCP Control (new). The Web Server now includes an MCP server, so an AI assistant can control your home in plain language: ask what's on, turn things on and off, run action groups, and read or set variables. It works with chat apps such as Claude Desktop and with coding agents such as Claude Code. ChatGPT can't connect because it requires OAuth, which Indigo doesn't support yet. It runs your system but deliberately can't change its configuration. See MCP Control.
- The installer now checks the macOS version as soon as it opens, so a Mac that can't run 2026.1 is told before you click through the install steps.
- Mac Client:
- The Help menu has been updated to reflect the new docs locations and the removal of the wiki website.
- Fixed: a device's How To link could open another manufacturer's device page when two Z-Wave devices shared a model number.
- Fixed, mostly on macOS 26 Tahoe:
- Event Log window text wrapped at a narrow fixed width and sat too close to the edge, instead of filling and following the window.
- The Delay by time field in the action editor was too narrow to show its value.
- Long action descriptions were cut off a third of the way across action lists, in the main window and in the trigger, schedule and action group editors.
- The + and − folder buttons in the Variables window were covered when a horizontal scroll bar was showing.
- Fixed, the main window in full screen:
- Revealing the menu bar covered the buttons and search field at the top of the window.
- After the Mac slept long enough to drop the server connection, the window came back as a maximized ordinary window instead of at its earlier size.
- Fixed: with the Name column dragged to the far left, double-clicking a trigger or schedule did nothing, and double-clicking a device turned it on or off instead of opening it.
- Fixed: if something went wrong while the client was setting up after connecting to a server, it could be left showing only an empty Variables window until it was quit and relaunched. It now returns to the connection window, where Reconnect recovers.
- Improved stability of the Mac Client, the Indigo Server and plugins. Fixed: a rare memory corruption could crash the Indigo Server or a plugin. Busy systems were the most exposed, for example ones that run external Python scripts thousands of times a day, since every script run starts its own process that connects to the server. The server and plugins restart themselves after a crash, so it may have shown up only as an unexpected restart.
- Indigo Server:
- We now check the certificates of indigodomo.com (licensing and plugin update checks) against the macOS system trust store, which Apple keeps up to date, so a future change to our servers' certificates can't break an Indigo installation that hasn't been updated.
- Fixed: when a linked Python script file couldn't be read, the Event Log showed only a bare traceback. It now names the file, with its full path, and the action group, schedule or trigger that ran it. If the file is in iCloud and hasn't been downloaded to the Mac, the error says so.
- Fixed: on macOS 27, quitting the Mac Client could cut plugins off from devices on your local network ("No route to host") until the server was restarted. This happened when the client had started the server; a server started at login wasn't affected.
Z-Wave¶
- Over-the-air firmware updates (new). The new Update Device Firmware (OTA)… menu item
installs manufacturer firmware (
.binand.gblfiles) on a Z-Wave device, with progress in the Event Log, and you can also start an update from a script. Be very careful about installing firmware older than what the device is already running: downgrading usually isn't recommended and can have unintended side effects. A device can accept an older image and then be unable to communicate, and recovering it means a factory reset and re-inclusion. See Update Device Firmware. - Remove Failed Modules from Controller now finds modules the interface hasn't yet marked as failed (one that was unplugged long ago, for example), so you no longer need to run Define and Sync first. Sleeping battery devices are never tested this way. When the interface refuses a removal, the Event Log now says why.
- New devices:
- Aeotec Water Sensor 8 (ZWA056)
- HomeSeer Smart On/Off Switch (WS300)
- Inovelli 2-1 Dimmer (VZW31-SN)
- Inovelli On/Off Switch (VZW30-SN), including its temperature and humidity sensors
- Kwikset SmartCode 5 Touchpad Lever (912), also sold as the Weiser GED1455
- Leviton Fan Speed Control (ZW4SF)
- Shelly Wave Pro 1 (QPSW-0A1X16) and Wave Pro 1PM (QPSW-0A1P16)
- Shelly Wave Pro 2 / Flush 2 Relay (QPSW-0A2X16). If you already have one, run Define and Sync to remove the extra third device it previously created.
- SmartWings Day/Night Shade Motor (WB04V)
- SmartWings Roller Shade Motor (WM25L). Set its travel limits with its remote.
- Device updates:
- GE/Jasco Smart Fan Control (14287) is now a fan-type dimmer with its LED and orientation settings.
- Neo Coolcam Multi Sensor (NAS-PD07Z) recognizes its newer firmware.
- Inovelli mmWave Presence Dimmer (VZW32-SN) has clearer parameter descriptions.
- The Ezlo LED Bulb is now recognized by name. It already worked as a dimmer.
- Fixed: Zooz RGBW Dimmer (ZEN56) had no color controls. Re-sync existing devices.
- Fixed: Ecolink Door/Window Sensor (DW-ZWAVE2.5) tamper state never updated. Re-sync existing devices.
- Fixed: the Zooz ZEN72 / ZEN77 device dialog showed a "Field ID … was already used" error.
- Fixed: a spurious "no matching device" startup message about the Z-Wave interface itself, on ZST39 firmware 1.60.
- Fixed: the Remotec Thermostat (ZTS-500) logged errors about missing fan mode states after Define and Sync, and lost the heating and cooling states that triggers use. Existing devices will ask to be re-synced.
Some devices added in 2025.2 will ask to be re-synced
Sixteen device types added in 2025.2 didn't finish starting up, so their sensors might not have updated, or the device ran without its settings. 2026.1 fixes this. After you upgrade, those devices ask to be re-synced, which is expected: open each one and run Define and Sync.
- Aeotec Home Energy Meter 8 (ZWA046)

Indigo Touch for Web and the Web Server¶
- Indigo Touch for Web:
- Now uses the new single WebSocket connection to the server instead of seven, and reconnects on its own: when the connection drops it shows the overlay and clears it when the server comes back, with no page reload. Tag colors and folder renames update live.
- Switching between list and tile view is about four times faster on a large database. Only the tab you're looking at is redrawn; other tabs catch up when you open them.
- Tag chips match the Mac Client's colors exactly, and have a border.
- Fixed: links with
?tab=pages,?tab=triggersor?tab=schedulesopened the wrong tab, including a control page's link back to Indigo Touch for Web. - Fixed: a browser tab left open across a Web Server restart retried forever, logging "access denied" every 30 seconds. It now waits quietly while the server is down and reloads itself when the server is back, which also picks up the new interface after an upgrade.
- Web Server:
- A quieter Event Log. Read-only MCP and HTTP API requests now log only with debug logging on, and changes log at the normal level. A new Hide MCP Logging option in Advanced Web Server Settings… moves MCP changes to debug level too, alongside the existing Hide Security Logging.
- Fixed: a client failing the same way over and over filled the Event Log; repeats are now logged at most every five minutes, with a count.
- Fixed: when the web server's port is already in use, the Event Log now shows one plain error saying how to find the process holding it, instead of a traceback.
- Fixed: MCP clients, or other external systems that try the standard OAuth discovery routes, no longer cause spurious "undefined page" warnings.
Bundled plugins¶
- Each bundled plugin's Help button now opens its page in the 2026.1 documentation.
- Global Property Manager: Fixed: debug logging was on by default for anyone who had never turned it on or off.
- NOAA Weather:
- Fixed: changing a Weather Station device's station caused an error on every update instead of switching to the new station.
- Fixed: a station that reports observations but is missing from the National Weather Service's station list (KPBI, for example) logged an error every update and never updated. It now updates, using the station ID as its location, and logs a warning once.
- Fixed: Wind Direction was empty for northerly winds, and winds between 290.5° and 292.5° read "Northwest" instead of "West".
- Fixed: a garbled station list response from the National Weather Service no longer stops the device from updating.
- SQL Logger: Fixed: an error logged repeatedly from the background thread that also stopped old history from being pruned, for anyone who had saved the plugin's configuration.
- Timers and Pesters:
- Fixed: an error in one timer, or a timer being created or changed at the wrong moment, could stop every timer and pester. Each timer, trigger and pester now runs independently.
- Fixed: pesters that never end. The Create Pester dialog now requires cycles and seconds greater than 0 and an action group that exists, and a pester whose action group is deleted is canceled with an error. Pester actions saved by earlier versions keep working, with a warning.
- Fixed: a timer started with no time left now expires once, instead of firing its Timer Expired triggers every second.
- Fixed: timers of 31 days or more showed the wrong number of days.
- Fixed: Set Timer Start Value now rejects an amount that isn't a whole number greater than 0.
- Fixed: a timer whose start value is missing or not a number now logs a clear error at startup.
- Fixed: the Toggle Debugging menu item.
- Virtual Devices: Fixed, Virtual On/Off Devices:
- A toggle or status request the device isn't set up for now logs a warning that it was ignored, instead of saying it was sent.
- A device with Supports Status on but no Status Variable now logs a configuration error at startup instead of an exception.
For scripters and plugin developers¶
- API version 3.9.
- Plugins only need to support macOS 10.15 and later, Indigo's new minimum. Binary Python
wheels in a plugin's
Contents/Packages/, and any other compiled code a plugin ships, no longer need to support 10.13 High Sierra. - Tags in the IOM:
indigo.server.tagsreturns the whole tag library;indigo.server.create_tag(),update_tag()anddelete_tag()manage it;add_tag()andremove_tag()onindigo.device,indigo.variable,indigo.trigger,indigo.schedule,indigo.actionGroupandindigo.controlPageassign tags, and an object's.tagslists them. Each tag record carries thecoloryou set plus read-onlytext_colorandborder_colorderived from it; use those to draw tags the way Indigo does. Colors are six hex digits (AABBCC) everywhere. - Folder and tag library subscriptions for plugins:
subscribeToChanges()on each object type'sfolders, withfolder_created(),folder_updated()andfolder_deleted()callbacks (and a newindigo.Folder.parentType), andindigo.server.subscribeToTagChanges()withtag_created(),tag_updated()andtag_deleted(). Folder subscriptions previously did nothing. See Folder and Tag Methods. - HTTP and WebSocket APIs: every object has
tags(HTTP addstagDetailswith each tag's record),GET /v2/api/indigo.tagsreturns the library, object lists accept?tag=and?folder=filters, and the tag library commands are available. - v3 WebSocket feed (
/v3/api/ws/full-feed): one connection carries every object type, the folder lists and the tag library, including tag recolors and folder renames, which the v2 feeds can't report. The v2 feeds are unchanged. See WebSocket API v3. GET /api/capabilitiesreports which HTTP, WebSocket and MCP versions a server supports, without authentication, so a client can tell a 2026.1 server from an older one. See Asking the server what it speaks for the response.- MCP server: a Model Context Protocol server at
/v3/api/mcpover Streamable HTTP, authenticated with an Indigo API key or a local secret.- 64 tools to list, read and find objects (including natural-language lookups that can answer "not found"), query devices by type, capability or state, control devices (on/off, dimmers and color, thermostats, speed controls, sprinklers), run action groups, triggers and schedules, read, set and create variables, read the Event Log, and list and restart plugins. Every tool is marked read-only or not.
- Control, not configuration: there are no tools to create, edit or delete devices,
triggers, schedules, action groups or control pages;
create_variableis the only exception. - A confirmation step for locks, garage doors, any device marked to require it, and
anything that runs arbitrary actions (action groups, triggers, schedules, plugin restarts):
the first call returns a token, and nothing happens until the client calls
confirmwith it. - Subscribable resources for every object type, single objects, the Event Log and the tag library, with each change delivered inline as a patch. Most out-of-the-box chat and coding clients just see the update message and re-read the whole object, while smarter clients only need to apply the patch.
- See MCP API.
macsemantic(new): a Python package installed with Indigo that any script or plugin can import. Give it a phrase and a list of named things and it returns the ones the phrase most likely means, or says nothing matches; it's the engine behind MCP Control'sfind_*tools. With Apple Intelligence (Apple silicon, macOS 26 or later) it matches by meaning, so "I can't see what I'm chopping" finds Kitchen Lights; on other Macs, including Intel Macs, it matches on shared words.indigo.utils.SEMANTIC_DOMAIN_*provides ready-made domains for Indigo's object types. See Semantic Resolver (macsemantic) and the Python Packages guide.- SDK: a new Example Folder and Tag Subscriptions plugin.
- Fixed: A WebSocket
refreshnaming an unknown object type now gets an error reply instead of leaving the connection silently unresponsive. - Fixed: plugins using PyObjC to reach Calendar, Contacts, the camera, the microphone or location now get the macOS permission prompt instead of generating odd errors and/or crashing the plugin host.
- Fixed: plugin HTTP endpoints (
/message/<plugin id>/<action id>/) now accept DELETE, which MCP clients send to end a session, and a reply that sets astatuswith nocontentgoes back as that status instead of a 500. A 405 that a plugin returns itself is logged only with debug logging on. See HTTP Requests.
Indigo 2025.2.0 — April 30, 2026¶
Indigo 2025.2 moves Indigo to Python 3.13, adds externally loadable Z-Wave device definitions
and a long list of new Z-Wave devices, and brings click sounds, a richer device menu and a Python
3.13-compatible web server to Indigo Touch for Web. It installs to
/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 2025.2/ and the client app is named
Indigo 2025.2, so you can switch back to 2025.1 by quitting 2025.2 and launching the older
server and client. See the blog announcement
for an overview.
Python 3.13¶
Update all of your third-party plugins to their latest versions before upgrading; some developers have already updated for Python 3.13, and most plugins need no change at all. Any of your own scripts that ran under Python 3.11 should now be run with 3.13 (previous Python versions are not uninstalled). Library changes we have identified:
- matplotlib renamed
Legend.legendHandles()tolegend_handles(), and removed the unofficialplot_date()— useplot(). - websockets renamed the
websockets.connect()argumentextra_headerstoadditional_headers. Affects scripts using the Indigo WebSocket API; Indigo Touch for Web is not affected. - telnetlib was removed from Python 3.13. Switch to a maintained library; as a stop-gap,
plugin developers can add telnetlib-313-and-up
to their
requirements.txt.
Z-Wave¶
- Externally loadable device definitions — new device definitions can now be loaded from a file, so support for a device you have added can be delivered without waiting for a plugin release.
- Extra logic to determine the firmware version of unknown interfaces, so more of them work before official support is added.
- New interface: Home Assistant Connect (ZWA-2).
- New devices:
- Aeotec Door/Window Sensor 8 (ZWA055) and Home Energy Meter 8 (ZWA046)
- Danfoss Keemple Smart Radiator

- The device menu gained Copy Python Reference, Show Dependencies and Print Device Details to Event Log
- Menu styling refined throughout
- The default layout is now rows rather than tiles.
- The web server (Sanic) was upgraded to run on Python 3.13.
- Fixed: thermostat list display
- More than one device menu open at once
- Menu placement
- An emoji logging failure in the web server, and spurious timeout errors
Bundled plugins¶
- Alexa: keeps a persistent JSON audit log of published devices (name, protocol, plugin ID, Alexa-spoken name, publish/unpublish/delete timestamps) in the plugin's Preferences folder, reconciles it against your devices at startup, and warns about any published device that was deleted while the plugin was disabled. The log survives plugin restarts and Indigo upgrades.
- Global Property Manager: actions to add, update and delete global properties, from the UI and the HTTP API — see the plugin's page.
- NOAA Weather: stations that return 404 now put the device into an error state.
- Timers and Pesters: fixed the Toggle Debugging menu item.
- SQL Logger:
- Fixed invalid SQL from a missing space in
ADD COLUMNon SQLite - Fixed PostgreSQL column-name collisions when two type changes happened within one second
ADD COLUMNon PostgreSQL now usesIF NOT EXISTSso an interrupted migration can be retried- Schema-update failures are logged cleanly instead of surfacing as secondary exceptions
- Devices that exceed PostgreSQL's 1600-column limit now log an actionable error naming the device and the
sqlLoggerIgnoreStatesworkaround - SQLite's internal
sqlite_sequencetable is no longer treated as an orphan to be dropped
- Fixed invalid SQL from a missing space in
For scripters and plugin developers¶
- API version 3.8.
indigo.variable.createis now available through both the WebSocket and HTTP APIs, with full validation of the name and value.- Plugin
requirements.txtprocessing now names its log files by Python version (3.13-pip-install-log-success.txt/-error.txt) in the plugin'sPackages/folder. When the Python version changes, Indigo removes only the libraries it installed under the previous version — files you added yourself are left alone — and re-runs the install. If your plugin checks for the old success file, or does its own install fromrequirements.txt, revisit that logic. - New TestingBase unit-test library for plugin test suites.
- SDK:
- The thermostat and energy meter example devices can disable automatic state updates
- Debug logging standardized and a Toggle Debug menu item added across the example plugins
Indigo 2025.1.0 — October 23, 2025¶
Indigo 2025.1 introduces event data: triggers, schedules and action group executions now pass
information about what fired them through to conditional scripts and to the actions they run. It
also adds a webhook trigger to the Web Server, a new list view in Indigo Touch for Web, and a
batch of new Z-Wave devices. It installs to
/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 2025.1/ with a client app named
Indigo 2025.1. See the blog announcement
for an overview.
General¶
- Event data is passed through the execution chain, so conditional scripts and actions can tell what caused a trigger, schedule or action group to run.
- New substitution
%%e:"PATH"%%inserts any part of the event data into text fields; the Write to Log action supports it, the Run Apple Shortcut action can pass the event data to the shortcut, and a new Insert Event Data into Variable action stores it in a variable. - Fixed Insteon device UI issues, and a few other issues, in the Mac Client on macOS Tahoe.
- Web Server: new webhook trigger, which catches arbitrary webhooks from external services and passes the received data on to conditional scripts and to actions that accept event data, including substitutions.
- Email+: email events pass through event data.
- NOAA Weather: new error and timeout handling, and less logging for some return codes.
Z-Wave¶
- New interface: Aeotec Z-Stick 10 Pro (ZWA060).

For scripters and plugin developers¶
- API version 3.7.
- All action methods take a new
event_dataparameter, andindigo.actionGroup.executeaccepts an optionalevent_datadictionary that is passed through to any action that supports it. - Trigger and Schedule instances are iterable, so
dict(obj)converts them to a dictionary. indigo.utilsgainedstr_to_boolandreverse_bool_str_value.- Fixed a Pillow version install issue
- Standardized debug logging across the SDK example plugins
Indigo 2024.2.0 — February 21, 2025¶

Indigo 2023.2 moves to Python 3.11, adds automatic processing of a plugin's
requirements.txt, and brings search, energy reset and a number of refinements to Indigo Touch
for Web. The minimum macOS is now 10.13 High Sierra (was 10.12). Python 2 plugins and
scripts are no longer supported. Because the Python version changed, anything you installed with
pip3 for your own scripts has to be installed again. Installs to
…/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 2023.2/ with a client named Indigo 2023.2. See the
